Today the kids at Riley's preschool were asked what they were thankful for . . . Riley told them that he was thankful for cords.
Yes, that's right....the style of pants. Which, are actually in style right now. My 4 year old ....thankful for a good sense of fashion. Hilarious.

Yelling contests in the car. . .
When having a yelling contest with Daddy and little brother in the car, he looks to his brother and says "I'll handle this, Ethan..you just chew your food". Then screams at his father again.

Breast feeding according to a 4 year old...
We were recently visiting my sister when Riley was made aware that his baby cousin, Ariana was drinking from his Aunt. Riley has seen this before but was probably not old enough to question it, however now that he's 4 he just had to know what the deal was with breast feeding.
So he asks my sister "What is Ariana eating?" ..she replies "Milk"
Riley: But where does it come from?
Aunt K: It comes from me.
R: Oh, do you drink a lot of milk?
A. K: I guess so.
R: Well, how would the milk get there?
Me: Yes, Riley that's exactly how it works. . .
At this point we think he is assuming that my sisters breast is being used as a bottle and that she drinks milk so that she can feed the baby. Which in some ways I suppose is true, but it would be far to difficult to try and explain to him why his logic is incorrect.

Where do babies come from?
Last week Riley wanted to know where babies come from. Since I'm not quite sure he is ready for that conversation at 4 years old, we explained to him that babies come out of their Mommy's bellies. He was confused by this, because he couldn't figure out how a baby could grow inside a Mommy's belly, how did it get in there? how did it get out? He asked.
The funny part of this particular conversation is that now since we can't go much further in explaining how this miracle occurs, our four year old now thinks that Mommy's eat babies and still has no idea how they come out.

Heaven, airplanes and family members . . .
So this conversation is the reason I've decided to start this blog. Our very curious 4 year old has decided he has to know who everyone's Mommy and Daddy are. So he starts by asking his father, who his Mom is. The conversation goes something like this:
Riley: Daddy, who is your Mommy?
Daddy: Nana is my Mommy.
R: Okay. Who is your Daddy?
D: Grandpa
R: Ohhh okay.Who is Mommy's Mommy and Daddy?
D: Nanny and Papa.
He was confused, but the conversation went on to sisters, and brothers ...and then later on he had the same conversation with his Nana. Except this time he had to know who Nana's parents were.
She told him her parents were Grampy Wilfred, and Nanny Junie. He was confused because he doesn't remember Nanny Junie as she passed away when he was only 2 years old. So then Nana had to answer the biggest question.
Riley: Where is Nanny Junie?
Nana: She is way up in Heaven.
R: Oh, how did she get up there? Did she go on the Heaven Airplane?
Riley has a skewed view of travel as his Daddy goes on an airplane for work a lot, so to get anywhere its on the airplane.
Fast-forward a few weeks down the road....Riley and I were sitting in the car. He starts asking about Nanny and Papa's parents and their sisters and brothers.
Riley: What's Papa's Mom and Dad's names?
Me: Dorothy and Percy.
R: Oh, Dorothy and Percy . . .is Percy a train?
He is shocked in awe thinking that his Great-Grandfather might actually be one of the trains from Thomas and Friends.
M: No, Percy is Papa's Dad.
R: Oh, is he a man?
M: Yes.
R:Where are Papa's Mom and Dad?
M: Up in Heaven.
R: Did they take the Heaven airplane too?
M: Sure.
We are then taking about his Nanny's brothers and sisters.
Riley: What are Nana's sisters names?
Me: Barbie and Sheila
R: Are they girls?
M:Yes.
R: Are they princesses?
M: Uhh no.
R: What colour is their hair?
M: Brown.
Not sure where the assumption came that Nanny's sisters were princesses..but okay. It gave me a laugh though.
